Project Completion

After the completion of our fall hackathon, teams are working to complete their projects.  Each winning team is now eligible for a Statement of Work prize for completing their projects.  Even if you didn't win a prize, you can still work to develop your skills, learn something new, and collaborate with others to complete the project for the nonprofit you supported during the hackathon.

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is a non-profit organization that operates the Los Alamos Nature Center in New Mexico. PEEC's mission is to enrich people's lives by strengthening their connections to the local canyons, mesas, mountains, and skies. The nature center features a full-dome planetarium, wildlife observation room, interactive exhibits, and both indoor and outdoor play areas. PEEC serves approximately 40,000 visitors annually through its nature center, public programs, school lessons, field trips, and planetarium shows. By offering a variety of educational experiences and resources, PEEC plays a vital role in fostering environmental awareness and appreciation in the Los Alamos community and beyond.

Heritage Square, located in Phoenix, Arizona, is a historic site showcasing the city's Victorian-era heritage. The square features the restored Rosson House Museum and offers a blend of history, technology, and culinary experiences. Operated by the Heritage Square Foundation and the City of Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department, it provides public tours, photography opportunities, and various attractions. Heritage Square acknowledges its location on the traditional lands of the O'Odham and Piipaash peoples.

The Wood County Child Protection Board is a non-profit organization focused on supporting foster children in Wood County, Texas. Their mission includes protecting, assisting, and encouraging these children by providing essential items and experiences that foster a sense of normalcy during difficult times.

STEAM Superheroes is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring youth to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Their innovative approach includes creating comic books featuring real scientists and developing accompanying lesson plans. By collaborating with professional comic artists and educators, STEAM Superheroes aims to challenge negative perceptions about STEAM careers and showcase their exciting potential. The organization also offers mentorship, organizes events like Teen Science Cafes, and promotes diversity in STEAM fields, all with the goal of empowering the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers.

Nature's Edge Wildlife and Reptile Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving the DFW area. As state and federally permitted wildlife rehabilitators, they specialize in the care and rehabilitation of native reptiles, bats, birds of prey, and select mammals. The organization also functions as an exotic reptile rescue, accepting unwanted pet reptiles and amphibians. Nature's Edge provides comprehensive care, including veterinary treatment and behavior conditioning, with the goal of rehabilitating animals for release or finding suitable adoptive homes. Additionally, they offer educational programs focused on wildlife conservation, species identification, and human-wildlife conflict mitigation.

Liminal Works is based in West Hollywood, California, dedicated to supporting grassroots activists and organizers working towards collective liberation. They co-design and build free technologies for mission-aligned individuals and groups, with a focus on LGBTQ rights and gender justice. Liminal Works offers services such as a theory-of-change engine and a co-design program, aiming to empower frontline activists who are often underserved by existing tech organizations. The nonprofit seeks partnerships with press, coalitions, and impact networks to expand their reach, and welcomes support from sponsors, philanthropists, and grantors to further their mission.

Out There Social Club is on a mission to end the national loneliness epidemic by partnering with businesses to financially incentivize people to go out with their friends more often.

San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing solutions in the San Gabriel Valley area of California. Founded in 1990, they offer two main programs: Affordable Homeownership and Affordable Home Preservation. Through their homeownership program, families help build their own homes alongside volunteers and pay an affordable mortgage. Their home preservation program assists low-income homeowners, including seniors and veterans, with critical home repairs. The organization boasts a 100% success rate for homeowners completing their program, with zero foreclosures since inception. San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity also operates ReStore locations, which sell affordable home goods and building materials to support their mission. With a high efficiency rating from Charity Navigator, they direct 96% of donations towards building and repairing homes, making a significant impact on housing affordability in their community.
